The Snapchat Friend Solar System is a Snapchat+ feature that shows where you rank in a friend’s Best Friends list. It uses eight planets, starting with Mercury and ending with Neptune. Each planet represents one position, from first place to eighth place.
What the Snapchat Friend Solar System Means
In the Friend Solar System, your friend appears as the Sun, and you appear as a planet. Your planet shows your position among the eight friends they Snap and Chat with most.
A planet closer to the Sun means a higher position. A planet farther away means a lower position. However, even the last planet still shows that you are part of that person’s top eight friends on Snapchat.
This feature is mainly based on activity inside the app. It does not measure the true strength of a friendship outside Snapchat.

The correct Snapchat Planets Order follows the same order as the planets in the real solar system.

The closer your planet is to the Sun, the higher your place in the person’s Best Friends list.
What Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars Mean
Mercury is the highest position. It means you are the person your friend currently Snaps and Chats with most.
Venus represents second place. You are still one of their closest Snapchat contacts, but another person holds the first position.
Earth means you are third in the list, while Mars places you fourth. These planets make up the first half of the top-eight ranking.
A high position suggests regular communication, but it does not always mean you are the closest friend in real life. The person may speak to other close friends through calls, face-to-face meetings, or different apps.
What Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune Mean
Jupiter represents fifth place, while Saturn means sixth place.
Uranus places you seventh, and Neptune shows that you are eighth in the person’s Best Friends list.
These positions are lower in the system, but they are not negative. Being Neptune still means you are one of the eight people that the person interacts with most on Snapchat.
Your position can move up or down as communication habits change.
How Snapchat Decides Your Planet
Snapchat connects the ranking to the people a user Snaps and Chats with most. Regular direct communication can affect your place in the list.
This may include sending Snaps, replying to Snaps, and having conversations in Chat. Snapchat does not publish the full formula behind the ranking, so there is no confirmed number of messages needed to reach a certain planet.
Your position also depends on how much the other person communicates with everyone else. Even if you send more Snaps, another friend may still have stronger activity with them.
How to Check Your Planet
Open Snapchat and go to the Chat screen. Tap your friend’s name or Bitmoji to open their Friendship Profile.
Look for a gold-ringed Best Friends badge. Tap the badge to open the Friend Solar System and view your planet.
The planet you see shows your position in that friend’s top-eight list. It does not show the complete list or the names of the other people above and below you.
The feature is available through Snapchat+, so it may not appear on a standard account.
Why Your Planet May Change
Planet positions are not permanent. They may change when your friend starts communicating more or less with different people.
For example, you may move from Mercury to Venus if another person becomes more active with your friend. You may also move higher when your own communication becomes more regular.
A sudden change does not always mean there is a problem in the friendship. It may only reflect recent activity inside the app.
Snapchat does not explain how often the ranking refreshes, so changes may not appear immediately after one message or Snap.
Why You Cannot See a Planet
You may not see a planet if the Friend Solar System is not active on your account. The feature is connected to Snapchat+, and it may need to be enabled in the subscription settings.
Another possible reason is that you are not currently in the person’s top eight Best Friends. If your activity level drops, your planet may disappear.
An outdated app, a weak connection, or a temporary loading problem may also stop the badge from appearing. Updating Snapchat and reopening the app may help.
Are Snapchat Planet Rankings Mutual?
The rankings are not always mutual.
You may be Mercury in your friend’s system, while that friend may be Earth or Mars in yours. This happens because each person has a separate Best Friends list.
For example, you may send most of your Snaps to one friend, but that friend may send more Snaps to someone else. As a result, the two positions will not match.
The planet only shows your place in the other person’s list.
Snapchat Planets, Friend Emojis, and Pinning
Snapchat Planets are different from Friend Emojis and pinned Best Friends.
Friend Emojis show different types of activity between users. Some emojis may show that two people are mutual Best Friends or have a Snapstreak.
Snapchat+ users can also privately pin one person as their number-one Best Friend. This is a personal choice and is different from the normal activity-based ranking.
A pinned friend does not automatically explain every planet position. The two features should be understood separately.
Do Snapstreaks or Snapscore Control the Ranking?
A long Snapstreak may show that two people exchange Snaps regularly, but it does not guarantee a specific planet.
A user may have a long streak with you while still sending more messages to another friend. That other person may hold a higher position.
Your Snapscore also does not directly decide your planet. Snapscore shows general Snapchat activity, while the Friend Solar System focuses on your position in one person’s Best Friends list.
Can You Improve Your Position?
You may move higher by communicating more regularly, but there is no guaranteed method.
Natural interaction is more useful than sending repeated or unwanted messages. You can reply to Snaps, send direct Snaps, and have normal conversations in Chat.
Trying to force a higher rank by spamming someone may annoy them and damage the real friendship.
The system works best when it reflects genuine communication.

What Each Planet Really Tells You
The Friend Solar System only shows Snapchat activity. It does not measure trust, loyalty, emotional support, or time spent together outside the app.
A person may be Neptune and still be a very close real-life friend. Someone may also be Mercury simply because they exchange many casual Snaps.
The feature can be fun and helpful, but it should not be treated as a final judgement about a relationship.
